CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WV News) — Engine Management Specialist, a Clarksburg-based small business that specializes in aircraft management and turbine engine work, is expanding.

The business held an event Friday to celebrate its success and announce plans to open a third facility.

“On behalf of everyone here at Engine Management Specialist, we’re pleased to announce the next chapter of our story. We recently purchased a 40,000-square-foot building off Route 19 south of Clarksburg. This is going to house the newest division — once renovations are complete — of Engine Management Specialist, and it’s called Turbine Engine Component Specialist,” said EMS General Manager Mike Frazier.

“This operation will be a (Federal Aviation Administration) certified Part 145 repair station. ... It’s going to complement our existing operations and provide services to external companies in the industry. Once operations begin, we expect to employ 50-70 employees,” Frazier said.

EMS owner and President Tim Critchfield said Clear Mountain Bank is helping make the expansion happen.

“We saw an opportunity. We saw a building that could fit the needs. So we were able to work with Clear Mountain Bank to make that happen,” Critchfield said.

Critchfield said EMS fills an important role in the aviation market.

“Corporate operators, they’re good at flying and scheduling aircraft for charters and so forth. But when you talk about the details of an engine and the options they have, that’s like putting me in the cockpit of a plane. ... What we do is we educate the operators,” Critchfield said.

Banking officials joined Friday’s celebration and touted EMS as a success story of community banking.

Rebeca Romero Rainey, president and CEO of Independent Community Bankers of America.

“As we think about community banks and the unique impact that they have, the reason they exist is to empower community, to empower small businesses and to help community growth. What you all are doing here is an amazing testament of this,” said Rebeca Romero Rainey, president and CEO of Independent Community Bankers of America.

“Congratulations to you all on a phenomenal operation and for your future. Your future is bright. And as an advocate of community banking, we firmly believe that community banks build strong communities, and this is just a perfect example of how our community banks in cooperation with a small business has been successful. It’s a true success story,” said Donna Tanner, president and CEO of Community Bankers of West Virginia.

Representatives from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, which hosted the event, also praised EMS for its success.

“We are committed to working with our community-focused member financial institutions and local leaders to support organization expansion and job growth, like that of EMS,” said Winthrop Watson, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh bank.

“We have these wonderful financial institutions to work with — community banks — and then there’s the engine for community development and that’s our small businesses,” said John Bendel, senior director of community investment for the bank in Pittsburgh.

Clear Mountain Bank helped EMS establish itself, and David Thomas, president and CEO of Clear Mountain, said he’s pleased to see EMS flourish.

“As a community bank, there’s nothing more special to us than to see a customer go out and succeed and support the local economy. You have the literal engines here, but this is an engine to the local economy that’s employing people and being a big part of the local aviation industry that’s so critical in Harrison County,” Thomas said.
