Shocked residents feared a woman had been murdered when they noticed two life-like legs sticking out from a roadside rubbish bin in Ayutthaya, Thailand, on December 4.

Police and paramedics arrived at the suspected crime scene and found the limbs poking out from the smelly bags.

However, they were relieved to find that they were actually made from hyper-realistic silicone.

Footage shows one of the officers hauling a silicone limb from a white sack.

He also found the right leg wrapped in a sheer pink curtain nearby.

Police officers wrote off the cases as an 'adult doll' that had been discarded.

They believe it had only been there a few hours.

Officer Chainarong Tang-on said: "A garbage collector said he had found legs inside a rubbish bin. Residents then called us, fearing that there was a dead woman on the street.

"But it seemed like a rubber doll had been disassembled and discarded. We were ready for a whole night of work only to find out it was a false alarm.'

Police, rescuers, and scared villagers burst into laughter upon realising the 'woman' was only a doll. However, they are yet to find the torso.

Chainarong added: "We were relieved that the woman was only a doll. We informed the local officials and residents immediately to avoid panic.

"There were no other parts of the body in the rubbish, so it's possible the head and chest may appear soon in the rubbish. Or maybe the owner is keeping those.

"People need to be careful when they throw out anything that looks like a body."

Meanwhile, in Barcelona, an Irish man has been arrested after a torso was discovered inside a suitcase in a street rubbish bin.

The 51-year-old man had been remanded in prison, court sources confirmed.

A second man, who was described as a Ukrainian, was arrested in connection with the gruesome find but was then released on bail.

The Irish man appeared before a judge in a closed court hearing, it emerged on Tuesday. The Ukrainian man had been released on bail.

The victim was a German man who police have been able to identify, although they were still awaiting the results of DNA tests before they could be 100 per cent certain of his identity.

He was understood to have been renting rooms to the two men held by police.

The man's torso only was found inside the suitcase in a rubbish container in the centre of Barcelona near to the apartment, on the corners of a street called Avenida Roma and another called Calle Casanova.

Police made the gruesome discovery last Tuesday, when a scrap dealer came across the torso while sifting through rubbish in the container and notified council workers.
